A young piano prodigy named Thea Kronberg finds herself creatively limited by family obligations in early 20th-century Colorado. When a good friend is suddenly killed in a train accident, Thea is imparted with enough money to pursue her piano studies in Chicago. With the unwavering support of her family doctor, and the guidance of eccentric teachers, Thea eventually discovers her true, hidden musical talent -- singing opera.
