Biography

Ginna Hoben (she/her) is an actor/playwright based in Queens, New York. Her solo play The Twelve Dates of Christmas premiered at the American Shakespeare Center in 2010 and has since enjoyed over seventy-five productions nationally and worldwide. Ginna’s next play was the critically acclaimed No Spring Chicken, which premiered as part of DC’s 2015 inaugural Women’s Voices Theatre Festival. Other produced plays include pierced! (New York and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals); the wind-chill factor and the ten-minute play telephone (The Actors Theatre of Louisville); and shorts Spit Spat Splendor Spite (from “Shakespeare in Mind,” Dramatic Publishing) and A Song of Good Life (Vermont Shakespeare Company.) She has been a writer/producer for the Emmy-nominated TV show Brain Games, The Food Network’s Hungry Games, and the children’s podcast Who Smarted?

Ginna has performed at various American regional theatres, most notably in thirty-one productions at American Shakespeare Center, including Kate in Taming of the Shrew, Portia in The Merchant of Venice, the Narrator in Every Brilliant Thing, and the titular role in the World Premiere of Shakespeare’s Sister. Other favorite performances include The Thanksgiving Play (The Kitchen Theatre); The Revolutionists (The Human Race Theatre); Moon Over Buffalo (Cape May Stage); Next Fall, The 39 Steps, and The Twelve Dates of Christmas (CATCO); Proof(Heritage Repertory); Almost, Maine (Project SEE); her self-written play pierced! (NYC and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals); and the World Premiere of Richard Dresser’s What Are You Afraid Of? (Humana Festival, Actors Theatre of Louisville.) Ginna can also be heard as Marina, the host of Spotify’s children’s podcast Deep Blue Sea, as well as dozens of characters on Atomic Entertainment’s Who Smarted?

In addition to her creative work, Ginna is a yoga and fitness instructor, a theatre educator, and a mom.
