Biography

Mallery Avidon is a playwright interested in the intersection of fact and fiction. Her play Mary-Kate Olsen is in Love premiered at The Flea Theater in November 2013, and queerSpawn (a commission from the COLAGE Foundation) premiered in the spring of 2013, produced by A Collection of Shiny Objects at HERE Arts Center, New York City. Other plays include Breaks & Bikes, fracture/mechanics, The Past is Not a Foreign Country and everyone they knew was famous. Avidon's work has been produced by Pavement Group, Target Margin Theater, On The Boards, angry BLVD and Williams College Summer Theatre Lab, and developed by Playwrights Horizons, Playwrights Foundation, IRT Theater, Seattle Repertory Theatre and New Century Theatre Company, among others. Avidon is an alum of the Soho Rep., Writer/Director Lab, an affiliated artist with New Georges, an artistic associate of Pavement Group and Target Margin Theater, co-curator of The Bushwick Starr's monthly reading series, and a dramaturg for the company Saint Genet. She has taught playwriting to prison inmates, high-schoolers and college students. She is currently working on a series of plays based on a seven-week road trip she took with D.W. Gibson and M.J. Sieber in the summer of 2011 (www.NotWorkingProject.com), interviewing people across America who were laid off because of the recession. Avidon holds a B.F.A. in Theater from Cornish College of the Arts and an M.F.A. in Playwriting from Brown University.
